During this interview, Anne Hidalgo confided that she had been the victim of sexual harassment at the start of her political career. The responsibles ? From “journalists and others”. “In political life, there is a lot of misogyny and a lot of harassment. At the time, speech was not so free. When a woman was the victim of harassment, it was difficult to know who to talk to about it. I had a bit of everything, but I’m not going to go back to it because I didn’t go to court.”

“Metoo has enabled this freedom of speech”

Presenter Jordan De Luxe wanted to know more, in particular about what prevented the mayor of Paris from filing a complaint. “First, because it’s too late, and secondly, because I registered in another way. I told myself that as a politician, I was going to try to advance the cause of women.” She explains to be “strongly committed to this” since 2001, when she became first deputy mayor of Paris. “I said to myself: ‘Where I am, it is to them that I must be useful’”.

Asked about the emergence of #Metoo, Anne Hidalgo praised the impact of the movement. “From my point of view, #Metoo has allowed this freedom of speech which is beneficial and which has moved the legal world”she says, adding that she wishes “to advance the cause of women, the right of women, the right to their autonomy, their independence and their ability to go before justice”.
