Anne Spiegel has announced that she will “make the office of Federal Family Minister available”.

Green politician Anne Spiegel (41) has announced that she will resign from her position as Minister for Family Affairs. In the statement, which comes from the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Spiegel explains this step with the words: “Due to political pressure, I decided today to make the office of Federal Family Minister available. I’m doing this to avert damage from the office, that faces major political challenges.”

Spiegel was heavily criticized after details about her vacation from last year became public. As acting Environment Minister of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, she went on a four-week vacation to France shortly after the flood disaster on the Ahr. However, their statements that they nevertheless took part in all government meetings via video link have now turned out to be incorrect.

The opposition called for his resignation

Numerous opposition politicians, including CDU leader Friedrich Merz (66), then demanded Spiegel’s resignation, which she has now complied with. She only took over the post from Christine Lambrecht (56, SPD) in December last year.

Shortly before, she had apologized for the incident last year. She gave a family emergency as the reason for the long vacation.
