Annecy Festival 2022: the official selection unveiled


A world reference in animated cinema, the Annecy Festival, which will make its big comeback from June 13 to 18 next, has lifted the veil on its official selection.

In total, 10 “stunning, poignant, enigmatic, contemplative, and sometimes inviting to travel” feature films are in official competition, announced the organizers.

Among them, “Le Petit Nicolas – What are we waiting for to be happy?”, by Amandine Fredon and Benjamin Massoubre. The film which features the famous character created in 1959 by René Goscinny and Jean Jacques Sempé will be released in cinemas on October 12.

Also featured is ‘Charlotte’, directed by Eric Warin and Tahir Rana, the true story of Charlotte Salomon, a young Jewish-German artist who, on the eve of World War II, defies obstacles to create a masterpiece timeless, as well as “The Island”, by Romanian Anca Damian, a comedy based on the reinterpretation of “Robinson Crusoe”.

Japan is honored with “Goodbye, DonGlees!”, by Atsuko Ishizuka, about a band of boys who arrive in Iceland, the land of flames and ice, and “Misaki no Mayoiga”, by Shinya Kawatsura, which tells the story of two young girls who find themselves separated from their families following a terrible cataclysm.

Alain Ughetto will present “Forbidden to Dogs and Italians”, inspired by the life of his grandparents, while host Signe Baumane will unveil “My Love Affair with Marriage”, in which a fiery young girl embarks on a quest for perfect love, to the rhythm of the hypnotic songs of the authoritarian sirens of mythology.

Minions and Buzz Lightyear on the program

In Pierre Foldes’ “Nayola,” a lost cat, giant toad, and tsunami help an unambitious sales associate, his frustrated wife, and a schizophrenic accountant save Tokyo from an earthquake and restore meaning to their lives. . The film by Spanish filmmaker and illustrator Alberto Vazquez, “Unicorn Wars”, where an army of bear cubs go to war against unicorns, completes the selection.

Special screenings will also be organised, allowing previews of several expected productions, including “Minions 2: Once Upon a Time Gru”, which will open this 46th edition, and “Buzz Lightyear”, a spin-off devoted to the youth of the intergalactic hero of Toy Story. Festival-goers will also be able to view the first images of “Spider Man: Across the Spider Verse (Part One)”, but also of “Puss in Boots 2: The Last Quest”.
