Always red carpet? Nope! Annemarie and Wayne Carpendale talk about cleaning madness and waste separation.

No paper fits between these two: together for 14 years, married for seven years: Annemarie, 43, and Wayne Carpendale, 44, are best friends and also colleagues. Now the parents of little Mads, 3, have worked together – in the movie “The Olchis” they lend their voices to the funny green creatures who live on a garbage dump. Reason to ask how things are in the Carpendale house.

Annemarie and Wayne Carpendale in a GALA interview

GALA: “The Olchis” never wash. Who is faster in the bathroom with you?
Wayne Carpendale: Well, I hope long enough not to stink as badly as the “Olchis” did. But we both don’t take long in the morning, which is because Anne likes to sleep until the last second and I’m a quick shower anyway.

Which of you is tidier?
Wayne: So everyone has their own areas. I can stack six opened water bottles on my bed, while the kitchen looks like a bomb has hit my wife after a cooking session … Of course, that annoys the other person.
Annemarie: … and then one of them and the other get a tidy-up rattle. I also love my husband’s trousers and underpants, which are taken off while standing and walking, which are still exactly where they were dropped.
Wayne: I’m not leaving them behind, I’m marking my territory, honey.

“I’m a bit of a philistine when it comes to sorting garbage”

On the subject of waste: where do you avoid waste?
Annemarie: I’m a bit of a philistine when it comes to separating rubbish, I even tear extra small stickers or plastic films from envelopes so that the machines don’t sort out anything that could otherwise be recycled.
Wayne: Mads also loves to differentiate between the different trash cans and diligently guesses what belongs in which. He also knows very well that you don’t just throw garbage on the street – and always want to pick it up right away.

The characters in the film swear a lot. Do you have a favorite swear word?
Annemarie: Of course we also scold us at home. But try not to do it in the wildest facets in front of Mads.
Wayne: And if something slips out, you just apologize for it. We are anyway in favor of him getting as much as possible out of life, which is why we are no more papal than the Pope.
