You should place all facilities that meet the needs of your residents in the city center so that they are accessible to everyone at all times. For example, if you want to reach (and maintain) a maximum population, we recommend the layout shown in the image above. This layout spans 70 x 76 tiles and is also more suitable for the beginning of the game. You have to invest 22,000 monetary units and a lot of wood, but each residential building of this layout is connected to all important service buildings.
We recommend using this layout as a complementary measure for smaller housing developments within your large civilization.

You can see a slightly larger version of it in the picture above this paragraph. This layout is 62 x 99 tiles in size, but also offers you a thriving populace thanks to similar space-saving placement.
The layout, which you can find under this paragraph, is less space-saving. The primary goal of this planning method is that you get engineers into your city as quickly as possible in order to quickly get hold of modern equipment such as steam engines and heavy artillery. This layout also covers all the necessary services for your residents, but it is not suitable for earning a lot of money.

If you already have the highest population tier available, you can try the layout shown below. There is space for over 760 houses on 161 x 181 tiles and the design practically offers you an almost completely self-sufficient civilization. So you can sit back, relax and watch your city blossom. But keep in mind that this layout requires enormous investments from you.

New World and Antarctica layouts
The New World and also Antarctica have different populations than the Old World. Accordingly, you also need other layouts to do justice to the inhabitants.
In the following video, YouTuber pablo 1713 explains which city designs are particularly suitable for the New World. This layout is 48×39 tiles and has space for 110 Jornalero residences, two fire stations, a marketplace, and a town hall.
Two layouts make sense for Antarctica, but they are based on the same construct. The upper version is tailored for explorers, while the lower version is intended for technicians.
