Biden intends to run again

Even if US President Joe Biden has had a number of political successes so far, his re-election is far from certain. So far, the 80-year-old has not officially thrown his hat in the ring – but he makes his intention clear.
According to his own statements, US President Joe Biden plans to run again for the presidential election next year – but does not want to announce it yet. “My intention is … it was from the beginning to run,” said the 80-year-old on ABC television when asked if he wanted to run for office again.
“But I have other things to do first before I fully campaign.” His wife Jill Biden had previously told the Associated Press news agency that only the time and place for announcing a new presidential bid had to be decided.
There are conflicting views about Biden’s chances of running again. Since entering the White House in January 2021, the President has had a number of successes, including in the fight against the corona pandemic, in economic policy, in infrastructure and in climate protection. However, many voters see his old age as a major problem.
Biden is already the oldest president in US history and would be 86 at the end of a possible second term. Asked by the ABC reporter if his age played a role in the decision to run for office again, he said, “No. But it’s legitimate for people to think about my age.”
In mid-November last year, former US President Donald Trump announced that he wanted to run again for the Republicans in the 2024 presidential election. “America’s comeback is starting right now,” the 76-year-old told invited guests at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Former US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley has also announced her candidacy for the 2024 presidential election, making her Trump’s first prominent challenger. It’s time for a new generation of leaders, the Republican said in a video.
More prominent Republicans are expected to throw their hats in the ring in the coming months, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former US Vice President Mike Pence. So far, Haley has not fared well in polls compared to her potential Republican opponents – her scores are in the low single digits.
