Another Arminia head injury: Nagelsmann’s substitution as an “educational measure”

Again Arminia head injury
Nagelsmann’s replacement as an “educational measure”

Defender Tanguy Nianzou from FC Bayern goes into a header duel with his elbow raised and seriously injures Bielefeld’s Fabian Kunze. Coach Nagelsmann then changes the 19-year-old as an “educational measure”. At Arminia it is the third head injury within a few weeks.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann justified the substitution of Tanguy Nianzou, who was warned after a hard foul, in the 3-0 win in Bielefeld as an “educational measure”. The 19-year-old went into a header duel with Fabian Kunze with his elbow raised and hit him in the head (45′). Kunze was treated for minutes, carried off the pitch on a stretcher and was unable to continue playing.

During the half-time break, the stadium announcer gave the “cautious all-clear”. As Arminia announced, Kunze is doing better again. He is stable, but will be taken to the hospital for tests to be on the safe side. In the past few weeks, striker Fabian Klos and defender Cédric Brunner had suffered head injuries at Bielefeld.

Head injury also in Hoffenheim

“Get well soon to the player,” said Nagelsmann, who had replaced Nianzou in the second half. “On the one hand, it’s an educational measure, that’s a red card.” Referee Matthias Jöllenbeck had left it yellow. “You have to learn to go in there a little more carefully,” said Nagelsmann.

Another reason for the substitution was that the defender would have been sent off if he made another foul. “I’m already a coach who wants to take a little educational measure with a young player every now and then,” said Nagelsmann. Josip Stanisic came on for Nianzou.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim also suffered a head injury and fear that Austrian defender Stefan Posch will be out. The 24-year-old crashed into his teammate Diadie Samassékou in the Bundesliga game against SpVgg Greuther Fürth and had to be replaced. Posch was bleeding from the head and was treated on the pitch. Samassékou didn’t get it that bad, he was able to continue playing after a short break. Havard Nordtveit came on for the Austrian Posch.
