another unpleasant surprise in June for consumers

This is a second month of increase for gas prices. These values, provided by the Energy Regulatory Commission to allow consumers to compare prices, will increase again in June.

If you are part of 11 million French people who use gas for heating or cooking, you could have an unpleasant surprise on your June bills. The Regulatory Commission (CRE) announced this Tuesday a slight increase in the price indicated. This rate, which it delivers every month, aims to serve as a compass for consumers who wish to compare supplier offers.

The benchmark price had already seen an increase in May, after a series of declines at the start of the year. Concretely, for June, the average benchmark price including tax is up 1.8% compared to May. He will pass 0.089 per KWh for households using gas for heating and 0.091 including tax per kWh for homes that only use it for hot water and cooking.

Increase in wholesale market prices

This increase is explained by a slight increase in wholesale market prices of natural gaswhich had been decreasing since the end of 2023. As of June 1, 2024, the variable part including tax increases compared to the month of May by 2 euros/MWh for typical cooking/hot water and heating consumers, explains the CRE.
