Ant-Man and the Wasp: this nod to the Matrix that no one had spotted 33 minutes from the film

Did you notice this little reference to “Matrix”, just behind Laurence Fishburne, in this precise sequence from the Marvel film broadcast tonight on TF1?

Like any Marvel feature film worthy of the name, Ant-Man and the Wasp, the 20th MCU film directed by Peyton Reed and broadcast this evening on TF1, is full of little details that the most observant spectators can have fun looking for while following the new adventures of Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne.

Some references, however, are much more complicated to locate than others, and you will sometimes need to use a good magnifying glass and a lynx eye to find them.

The one that interests us today is exactly 33 minutes and 20 seconds into the feature film, in the sequence where the protagonists call on Professor Bill Foster, played by Laurence Fishburne, and visit him at the university where he teaches quantum physics.

While this renowned scientist gives a lecture in an amphitheater full of students, we recommend that you pay attention to the large blackboard behind him, and carefully inspect each of the inscriptions. You will see that, just to the left of the character, is written the word “Matrix”.

Difficult once you have spotted this little detail not to think of the most famous feature film of Laurence Fishburne’s career: the memorable Matrix, directed by the Wachowskis in 1999, and in which the actor embodied the unforgettable Morpheus.

Was this little inscription consciously slipped here in the hope of amusing fans who notice it? Is it simply a coincidence? We would rather be tempted to opt for the first solution.

Anyway, there are plenty of other easter eggs lurking in Ant-Man and the Wasp as well. For example, you can find two references to Jurassic Park by Steven Spielberg, a little nod to The Big Lebowski’s Dude, or of course the traditional Stan Lee cameo.
