Ant-Man Overtakes Captain Marvel: Will an MCU Postponement Change the Story of Phase 4?

Disney has started again to shake up the release schedule for the upcoming movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At least fans can be happy that not all films are pushed back again, instead “The Marvels” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” simply switch places.

The official reason given was that although the shooting of the two films is progressing wonderfully, “Ant-Man 3” is simply a bit further and therefore takes over the start date of February 2023 from “The Marvels”, after which it moves to July 2023 .

This switch seems to confirm that the two films weren’t meant to build on each other from the start. With Ant-Man 3 bringing back Kang, whom we already know as the villain from Loki, he’s likely to play a big role in upcoming Marvel movies as well. However, Kang has to completely ignore “The Marvels” now.

According to current information, the fourth phase of the MCU is supposed to end with “Fantastic Four”, but since the film just lost its director, “The Marvels” could also mark the conclusion of phase 4.

It’s likely that The Marvels will continue the storyline of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, potentially setting the stage for the Secret Invasion series. Thus, during the transition from phase 4 to phase 5, the MCU would have two major storylines: the fight against Kang and the infiltration by the Skrull aliens.

Currently, Marvel fans can look forward to “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. With series like “Moon Knight” or “She-Hulk” and other films like “Thor: Love and Thunder”, Disney is currently making sure that hardly a month goes by without Marvel entertainment.
