Anthony Pompliano launches bitcoin pizza, but only accepts fiat money

Bitcoin evangelist Anthony Pompliano starts a decentralized Bitcoin pizza brand and calls for payment in fiat money.

Just in time for the upcoming Bitcoin Pizza Day, crypto influencer and angel investor Anthony Pompliano has conjured up a new PR campaign. Or rather pulled out of the oven, because the Bitcoin evangelist has entered the pizza business: On May 18, “Pomp” presented a new pizza brand called “Bitcoin Pizza”.

The concept: In cooperation with local pizzerias in ten major US cities, Bitcoin followers can satisfy their hunger from May 22nd to 29th with one of 10,000 “Bitcoin pizzas”. On the website eatbitcoinpizza.com, hungry hodlers from New York to Los Angeles can choose between five pizzas.

Bitcoin culture to bite into

The names of the pizzas pay tribute to the crypto-meme culture. For example, the classic pizza salami is ennobled to the pizza “Laser Eyes” and the pizza Margherita to the pizza “No Keys, no Cheese”. The limited supply of 10,000 pizzas is also a bow to the Bitcoin tradition. Because on May 22, 2010 two pizzas changed hands for a total of 10,000 BTC. The promotion was announced on May 18th via the legendary Bitcoin forum Bitcointalk.org coordinated.

It is one of the first documented Bitcoin trades against a product or service. Initiator Laszlo Hanyecz would never have dreamed that his 10,000 BTC would one day be worth 400 million US dollars. Hanyecz received his pizzas on May 22nd, and the day has been an integral part of the Bitcoin liturgy ever since.

Pizza for bitcoin, but not bitcoin for pizza

The proceeds from the sale of the pizzas will benefit the further development of Bitcoin. Specifically, it should flow into the Bitcoin Development Fund of the Human Rights Foundation. Because of its resistance to censorship, human rights organizations are very fond of digital gold.

The Bitcoin Development Fund of the Human Rights Foundation was an obvious partner for us for this project. You are doing a great job helping the people who work tirelessly every day to ensure that Bitcoin continues its global rise to mass adoption,

explains Pompliano via Twitter.

The campaign has one downer, however: because the Italian nutritional value store in has to be paid for Fiat money. For this, Pomp had to take a lot of criticism in crypto Twitter. For the precious metal enthusiast Peter Schiff, Pomp has burned himself on the baking sheet:

Nonsense. You will not accept #Bitcoin as paying with Bitcoin is far too expensive for customers and far too volatile for your business to accept. It is neither a unit of account, nor a medium of exchange, nor a store of value. Not only is bitcoin not money, it’s not even a currency,

the gold bug is giving in the direction of the Bitcoin maximalist. Pomp countered by asking why Schiff would then enable Bitcoin payments on its website. Mamma mia.
