Guest on the show En aparté on February 14, Antoine de Caunes returned to his experience on television. The host took the opportunity to evoke a passage from his book, Perso, in which he recounts having hosted several programs “in a state of intoxication” or “under the influence of psychotropic drugs of all kinds”.
Antoine de Caunes, a key figure in the PAF, was Nathalie Lévy’s guest in En aside this Monday. The host, who has distinguished himself both on Antenne 2 and on Canal +, and who now punctuates the afternoons of France Inter, shared several anecdotes from his long career in a book entitled Perso and published in October 2021 by Editions Sonatina. In the latter, he recounts in particular having hosted several programs under the influence of drugs and alcohol. “I presented all kinds of programs – with the exception of television games, the Eurovision contest or the Loto draw – and this, I can admit today, in all possible states, whether under various forms of intoxication or under the influence of psychotropic drugs of all kinds (…) Out of professional conscience, of course, the idea being each time to check whether such and such a substance could help me endure the often thankless exercise of being in front of the camera“, he writes.
Antoine de Caunes: “I strongly advise against it”
Necessarily intrigued, Nathalie Lévy wanted to come back to this passage with Antoine de Caunes, this February 14, asking if it was a “way of making television which is bygone”. “You want to know what I took today, right?“launched, jokingly, the friend of Philippe Gildas, before responding, more seriously:”Nothing is over. What is past is what we decide to be past. One can still indulge today in all the experiments. Certainly, there were times when it was more in tune with the times. But what’s fun in this job is to try things and avoid going around in circles and always repeating the same exercise.. (…) Each time, it is to try to reinvent the game a little, to find new ways of having fun, of getting excited, of being scared.“However, Antoine de Caunes made it clear that he did not encourage this kind of behavior.”I strongly advise against it, based on my experience. I think the best state to do this job is to be absolutely clean“, he added.
