  • Israel continued its offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, after rejecting the idea of “humanitarian breaks” demanded by the United States. The IDF, which has been relentlessly shelling the Palestinian territory since October 8, has also been leading ground battles against the Islamist movement for more than a week.
  • The head of American diplomacy, Antony Blinken, met the Prime Minister of Qatar on Saturdaya mediating country in the conflict. He is also due to meet with his Jordanian, Egyptian, Saudi and Emirati counterparts, as well as with the King of Jordanwhose country recalled its ambassador to Israel in protest against the offensive in Gaza. Mr. Blinken is due to continue his tour on Sunday in Türkiye. Its president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced on Saturday that he was breaking all contact with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Ankara recalls its ambassador to Israel.
  • Hamas, in power in the Gaza Strip, claimed on Saturday that an Israeli bombing had killed fifteen people in a UN school, where displaced people were sheltering in the Jabaliya refugee camp (in northern Gaza). The last days, several deadly bombings on this camp, the largest in the territory, on schools, as well as a strike on Friday on an ambulance provoked, in vain, multiple calls to spare civilians.
  • Israeli soldiers have been surrounding Gaza City since Thursday in order to destroy the ” center “ of Hamas. The IDF also said on Saturday that its soldiers had suffered several attacks in the north of the enclave and had killed “dozens of terrorists” of the Islamist movement. Israeli forces also said they carried out a “targeted raid” in southern Gaza against “a terrorist cell coming out of a tunnel”. According to the same source, 341 soldiers have been killed since the start of the war. Mr. Netanyahu acknowledged that the ground operation was ” difficult “.
  • Tension is also very high on the Israeli-Lebanese border, where the Shiite movement Hezbollah, allied with Hamas and supported by Iran, is very present. The Israeli army announced on Saturday that it had launched air raids against Hezbollah targets following attacks by the Lebanese movement, marking a new escalation of the conflict in the region.
  • The Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip’s health ministry reported 9,488 deaths in the enclave on Saturday.including 3,900 children, since the start of the war. In Israel, at least 1,400 people killed, authorities saythe majority of civilians massacred on the day of the Islamist movement’s attack, October 7. Hamas also holds 241 hostages, according to the Israeli army.
