“Any chance”: Dobrindt urges Union to “keep a clear edge”

Dobrindt urges Union to “keep a clear edge”

Armin Laschet is supposed to speak at the CSU party congress on Saturday. A rough wind is blowing against him from Bavaria beforehand. Alexander Dobrindt demands content and the courage to face conflict. He still sees the Union’s potential at 30 percent, and is violently attacking the SPD, the Greens and the Left Party.

CSU regional group leader Alexander Dobrindt has called on the Union to take a substantive offensive and “more courage to clear the edge” in the face of persistently disastrous polls. “We still have every chance. The flexibility in voting is still huge,” he said a good two weeks before the federal election and before the CSU party congress in Nuremberg. CDU boss Armin Laschet had to “clearly show that he is the strongest of the three candidates” on Sunday evening at the second major TV exchange between the Union, SPD and Greens candidates for chancellor.

Laschet is supposed to speak at the CSU party congress on Saturday. It is eagerly awaited whether CSU boss Markus Söder will again allow himself tips against the candidate for chancellor. The Bavarian Prime Minister was defeated by Laschet in the fight for the candidacy for chancellor. Against the background of the poor poll results – the Union was recently between 19 and 25 percent nationwide, the CSU in Bavaria only 28 percent – Dobrindt demanded: “The trend must be broken. That can only be done aggressively, omnipresent and optimistic.” He added: “It’s about more courage to face conflict. More courage to controversy. More courage to be clear about the edge. We now need a sprint in terms of content.”

“Reduce dependence on China”

The dispute can “only be won through the substantive dispute about the right path. The directional decision is now clearly defined.” Well over ten million people would watch the TV triumph of the broadcasters ARD and ZDF between Laschet, SPD chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz and the Green candidate Annalena Baerbock on Sunday evening and only make their decisions shortly before the election, said Dobrindt. He still sees the Union’s potential at 30 percent.

Dobrindt violently attacked the SPD, the Greens and the Left Party. “The SPD and the Greens are longing for the historical legacy of [dem damaligen SPD-Kanzler Gerhard] Schröder and [dem früheren SPD-Chef Oskar] To correct Lafontaine and to make the left political camp capable of forming a coalition again, “said the CSU politician.” Olaf Scholz has accepted this as a historic mission. In doing so, he has obviously forgotten what the Left Party and its predecessor, the SED, have already done to this country. ”

In the final spurt of the election campaign, the Union must speak more about sovereignty for Germany and Europe in matters of security policy, an internationally competitive economy and a strong center of society, said Dobrindt. “We have to ensure that the one-sided dependency on a single region in the world – China – is reduced.”
