Apex Legends: The bitter failure of an “anti-Apex” campaign… and of Electronic Arts!

While Season 14: Predation has just landed on Apex Legends, some players do not appreciate the current state of the game very much, so much so that they have launched a vast campaign to openly harm it with the aim of to compel the developers at Respawn Entertainment to change things. Except that, everything didn’t really go as planned…

#NoApexAugust: The cry for help from Apex Legends players

With the launch of Season 14 of Apex Legends on August 9, players and developers alike imagined a new impetus for the Battle Royale signed Respawn Entertainment. However, a significant portion of the players had the feeling of having been deceived with the deployment of this new season. In concrete terms, the company has been criticized for some time now for happily surfing on the “hype” of a game that would be no more than a shadow of itself despite an ever-growing number of players and the deployment successive updates every three months.

To compel Electronic Arts and Respawn to act in the interest of their players, the hashtag #NoApexAugust was launched on Reddit then relayed massively on Twitter. The idea was simple: invite as many Apex Legends players as possible to completely stop playing this Battle Royale during the month of August 2022 with a view to bringing down its statistics, and thus raising awareness. to the company that players are fed up with the current state of the game.

Okay, let’s admit. But what is concretely reproached to Apex? Many things !

One of the points that seems to unite the most adherents is the fact that the game servers have a rather high “ping” compared to other FPS, Valorant and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to name a few. In fact, this refresh rate would even be as low as that of Minecraft, i.e. 20 Hertz, where Valorant runs at 128 and CS:GO at 64.

For more casual players, it is also and above all the lack of cross-platform progression that poses a real problem despite the incessant complaints from the community. Similarly, according to them, cosmetics would be far too expensive while their quality would be quite questionable (most of them being considered uninteresting). In the same vein, the famous legacies whose legend says that they would appear up to 1 every 500 Packs are also very criticized since they would deserve in the eyes of many players to be rare certainly, but not to have such a low and random rate of obtaining that… 0.02%, especially when real money is required.

Many other problems were noted, the lack of balance between PC and console players among others, and if many concerns seem minor at first glance, they were able to end up included in this important call for help from the community: enough is enough.

A failure carried by fans of the license

But despite the significant mobilization of these players, this was not enough. In response, those for whom Apex Legends is doing very well highlighted the game’s attendance record set only a few days after the start of this “anti-Apex” campaign, a significant record since 510,286 players were connected at the same time on Wednesday August 10, 2022 at 6:00 p.m., an increase of more than 20% compared to the last record to date… last May!

This record will have largely discredited the protest movement which considered that the game was “dead”, largely qualifying it as a “dead game”. He even almost silenced it just a few days after its launch, when the original intention seemed rather laudable and emanated from a real feeling of abandonment on the part of these players.

Apex Legends

However, if the #NoApexAugust failed magnificently to convince both players and Electronic Arts of the presence of too many problems in what has been established for a while now as the third most played game on Steam, all is not lost. Admittedly, Apex Legends continues its ascent, but it is not excluded that this will have an impact in the short or even medium term. Whatever happens, this attempt will have at least demonstrated one thing: all is not rosy on Apex despite a steady increase in the number of players. A little questioning might be in order!

In the meantime, part of the Apex Legends community seems distraught about the state of the game, which they nevertheless love, and it is very unfortunate that their opinion is probably not taken into consideration… Or else it is the case and their opinion is too irrelevant and too minority to be taken into account? We will probably never really know!

Apex Legends

Will this dead-in-the-bud movement make Apex Legends evolve in the coming months, or will it give wings to the decision-makers of the company behind this Battle Royale? The future will tell…
