Too much of a good thing can be wonderful – or at least that’s a quote from actress Mae West. But in recent years, the producers of the MonsterVerse films have wanted at all costs to prevent us from ever getting tired of Godzilla or King Kong. So they keep the scenes in which the giants beat each other up – the scenes that audiences go to the cinema for in the first place – to a minimum.
“Kong: Skull Island” alone, the only Kong solo film in the current series, offered us plenty of action in 2017. It shows that too much Kaiju action, if done well, can actually be wonderful – especially if the film doesn’t take itself too seriously and just wants to be entertaining.
