Apparently bomb threat – police operation at the Belarusian embassy

Excitement on Friday at the Belarusian embassy in Vienna: “There has been an operation since midday because of a threat situation,” said the police. Fortunately, this turned out to be wrong in the afternoon.

In consultation with the embassy staff, the premises in the extraterritorial area of the diplomatic mission were searched and nothing was found, said police spokesman Christopher Verhnjak. The State Office for the Protection of the Constitution (LVT) is now investigating the previously unknown backgrounds and perpetrators of the threat.

According to residents, residents of neighboring buildings of the embassy in the Penzing district were also temporarily asked to leave their homes. Verhnjak explained to the APA that it was a blocking circle for security reasons. The police were on duty around the embassy in Hüttelbergstrasse from midday. After the building was searched, all locks were lifted.
