Schumacher criticizes Aston Martin and Vettel

For Sebastian Vettel, the first season at Aston Martin is still mixed. One reason for this could be unrest behind the scenes, speculates ex-driver Ralf Schumacher. He wishes his nephew Mick a faster car, but speaks out against switching to Alfa Romeo.

Ten races, one podium, three top ten placings, one retirement, seven times outside the points: Sebastian Vettel’s in his debut season at Aston Martin is far from going well. His small, temporary high-altitude flight has long since ended, his serious driving error at Silverstone provided the critics with new fodder.

Ralf Schumacher is also one of Vettel’s critics. In an interview with “Sport Bild”, the ex-Formula 1 driver pointed out that the Heppenheimer is not only concerned with racing at the moment, but also with “many topics” in general. “He’s entitled to that too. But the most important thing should be to have your team-mates under control.” But that is not the case with Vettel.

Schumacher: Vettel should easily beat Stroll

“Last year Sergio Pérez was always two or three tenths faster than Stroll. When I see Pérez now at Red Bull in a duel with Max Verstappen, it should actually be easy for Sebastian that he is consistently faster than Stroll,” said Schumacher the four-time world champion in duty.

According to Schumacher, the fact that it is currently not so easy for Vettel at Aston Martin could also be due to the unrest behind the scenes. The takeover of Racing Point by Lawrence Stroll and Aston Martin was a “clever move”, but: “You just forgot that you also have to take the employees with you. You can’t turn a cow into a tiger overnight do.”

He heard that there should be “many internal problems” in the racing team. “Some engineers have searched their way, disappointed, now new people are being brought in”, explained Schumacher, who fears that owner Lawrence Stroll could “at some point ask the question of sense” and withdraw from the project.

What speaks against Alfa Romeo?

Mick Schumacher currently has no such worries. The rookie arrived right in his first year in Formula 1 and leaves a very good impression at the Haas – so good that there is already speculation about a move to Alfa Romeo. His uncle is critical of this change.

“I’m not a fan of that. Alfa has had a big investor in the background for years, and there is far too little for that. I like the team, but I would start questioning team boss Fréd Vasseur,” said Schumacher, who says: ” There is better for Mick. ” Where would he most like to see his nephew? “Alpha Tauri with Franz Tost would personally be my first choice for Mick.”
