Appeal for bone marrow donation launched to save 3-year-old Joseph

On social networks, the call for help from the parents of little Joseph was strongly relayed, with one hope: to find a compatible bone marrow donor.

The 3-year-old child has bone marrow cancer and needs an emergency transplant.

Asked by CNEWS, her mother said she “didn’t have the words” to describe the fact that she could lose her child.

Joseph has already spent more than half of his life in hospital, where he has undergone 793 chemotherapy treatments. This latest relapse comes after he had a last blood test, which turned out to be very bad, two weeks ago.

Like Joseph, nearly 1,300 people need bone marrow transplants each year. In nearly 80% of cases, a blood test can be enough to save the life of a patient awaiting a transplant.

Hematologist Emmanuel Raffoux recalls that, for this kind of intervention, the chance that the patient is compatible with the transplant is estimated at 1/1,000,000.
