According to new reports, the successor to theAirTag first of the name may ultimately not arrive next year.
Since its marketing in April 2021, the AirTag has sold more than 55 million copies. If the tracker is currently the target of several victims of harassment, it is clear that it can prove practical in many situations, including finding one’s luggage.
We have known for some time that Apple is working on a new version, but it may not arrive as soon as we might have hoped.
The second generation AirTag will arrive later than expected
The first rumors around a new version of the AirTag date back to June 2022. At that time, we learned that Apple would market new AirTags only if the first generation model achieved satisfactory sales.
Obviously won over by the success of its tracker, the Cupertino company opened the floodgates for the production of a new version of the AirTag, as Ming-Chi Kuo reported to us last August.

Generally well informed, the analyst then told us that the AirTag 2 would see its mass production start in the fourth quarter of 2024. However, elements seem to have disrupted Apple’s plans, since the American giant would have finally delayed production by several months.
AirTag 2: a release finally planned for 2025?
Still according to Ming-Chi Kuo, whose comments are reported to us by the site 9to5Mac, the Apple brand would have postponed the programming of its AirTags 2 to 2025, without further details at the moment. If the analyst has not yet provided details on the period of the year during which the new AirTags could land, we can deduce that they will be launched between the first and second quarter of 2025.
Based on the information at our disposal, we can assume that the AirTag 2 could separate from its U1 chip in favor of a U2 chip. This would allow Apple’s device to benefit from a better location system, thus making it easier to find your objects thanks to an extended range.
