Apple announces its new MacBook Air with M2 chip

The key product of the Apple WWDC 2022 conference was, of course, the all-new MacBook Air. Here is what we can say about it and what we must remember about it.

During this new Apple keynote, the new MacBook Air was introduced to the world. So, is this a REVOLUTION? Let’s see that.

A transformed Apple MacBook Air

First element to note in terms of design first is the overall thinness of the product which is only 11.3mm. For comparison, the 2018 version was 16.1mm thick. Apple has also rounded the corners to provide a chassis with softer lines. This MacBook Air offers several colors namely: Silver, Stellar Light, Space Gray and Midnight, did you say pompous?

Its new screen is comfortable with a new Liquid Retina Displa in a 13.6-inch format with better brightness, namely 500 nits here against 400 previously. For connectivity, Apple has chosen a famous MagSafe socket (wireless charging) on the left edge and there are typically two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports and a 3.5 mm jack on the right.

The keyboard is also different with a Magic Keyboard similar to that which is already present on the latest MacBook Pro. Great news.

A new firepower

Apple MacBook Air 2022

Its big novelty is of course its brand new Apple M2 chip which improves performance thanks to its 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores as well as the possibility of supporting it with 24 GB of RAM. During its conference, Apple notably indicated better performance for advanced tasks and a new autonomy of up to 18 hours. Note +18% in CPU, +35% in GPU on the performance side. It’s still impressive.
