Every year, Apple recognizes the best apps and games in various categories as part of the App Store Awards. Many of them will be familiar to most of you, but there are also some surprises. We have summarized the winners in the various categories for you.
iPhone app of the year
The iPhone app of the year is BeReal. This is a social app that asks you once a day to take a picture of you and your surroundings. This allows your friends to see what you are doing and vice versa.

iPad app of the year
”GoodNotes 5” wins the title of the best iPad app this year. GoodNotes is known as a clear writing program that offers a variety of options for designing your own notes.

Mac App of the Year
The MacFamilyTree app is hugely popular on Apple’s Mac. It offers you the opportunity to create and design complex family trees. MacFamilyTree also has huge databases for research and genealogical research.
AppleTV App of the Year
The ViX app won on the AppleTV. A large amount of Spanish content such as TV shows, series and films can be accessed through the app. Since there are Spanish speakers all over the world, the app’s success is entirely understandable.
Apple Watch App of the Year
For fitness fans, the winner in the Apple Watch category is of particular interest. The Gentler Streak Workout Tracker app won. This is a fitness tracker that tries to find an optimal combination of rest and workouts. In contrast to other apps, your mental well-being is the focus here.
iPhone game of the year
On the iPhone, the mobile version of Apex Legends took first place. This is a battle royal shooter that focuses on action, team play and tactics. The science fiction setting, the fast gunplay and the interesting maps complete the package.
iPad game of the year
For puzzle fans, the Moncage app is a real feast. The iPad game of the year confronts you with a variety of puzzles, all of which are presented in the form of a dice. This creates beautiful worlds and complex puzzles in a tiny space.
Mac Game of the Year
The name Inscryption has probably come across most gamers this year. This is a card-based roguelike that combines horror elements with puzzle elements while offering strategically challenging combat.
AppleTV Game of the Year
In El Hijo you experience exciting adventures and have to avoid dangerous opponents. You play a six-year-old boy who is looking for his missing mother in the Wild West and is confronted with a variety of dangers. Cleverness and skill are also required here.
Apple arcade game of the year
”Wylde Flowers” took first place in the Arcade Game of the Year category. The life and driving simulation is reminiscent of Animal Crossing in many respects, but the game also has many aspects of its own to offer. In particular, the magic and witch features offer a lot of fun.
