Apple: Apple’s helmet would be equipped with an iris scanner and a leg tracking system.

After having given us the probable name of the next helmet ofApple (see article), here comes the supply chain analyst Ming Chi Kuo and the newspaper The Information put the cover back by mentioning a possible iris scanner as well as a system of body tracking.

Scanning the iris will be used in particular to authenticate, both to open a session and to pay from the headset. It will also be possible to share your helmet with other members (your family, your friends…).

Besides the iris scan, the helmet would be equipped with two downward-facing cameras to follow the movements of your legs. We do not know at this time if other cameras will be placed on Apple’s headset controllers, like the Meta Quest Pro. And what we know even less is whether the device will be enough to tracking the body properly.

In May of this year, The Information had published a detailed report of the helmet, this one apparently having no less than 14 cameras in totalincluding those used for the “pass-through“, position tracking, eye tracking, face tracking, hand tracking and body tracking, which would have caused “headaches” for engineers.

One of the specificities of the helmet is to sport a transparent screen located at the front, and allowing outsiders to see the top of our face as well as our eyes.. Be aware, however, that adding such a screen is extremely difficult to set up, and like the Meta Quest Pro who decided to abandon his depth sensor, nothing says that said screen is indeed present in the final prototype.

If the Meta Quest Pro plays with us by choosing to be ambiguous on the professional and entertaining side (see article), that ofApple plays the card of the professional world, “almost never” mentioning games in its internal notes. Also know thatHASapple makes the bet to immerse yourself from your hands and not from any controller, understand that a huge amount of work is therefore delivered to the optimization of hand tracking, particularly visible in the patent filings of the said apple brand.

To conclude, The Information revealed thatApple would consider pricing the helmet at $3000 (making our Meta Quest Pro suddenly much more affordable) but that the latter would think about reducing the cost of materials to make it much more affordable. At the technical level, the product ofApple would have a more powerful processor, a higher definition as well as a thinner design than the last born of Meta.

If the Meta Quest 2 still interests you, know that you can always afford it at the Fnac, Darty or Amazon for €449.99. You can also find good PCs for gamers on the site.
