“Apple Classical”: an app dedicated to classical music is under construction


The latest beta of Apple Music for Android contains clues pointing to the upcoming introduction of an application, signed Apple, and dedicated to classical music. The latter would be the result of the takeover of Primephonic by the Cupertino giant a few months ago.

Do you remember the acquisition of Primephonic by Apple at the start of the 2021 school year? Well Apple is obviously capitalizing on this acquisition to create a new music application. At least that’s what snippets of code analyzed by 9to5Google in the latest beta of Apple Music for Android. The specialized site has notably discovered that this new beta of the music streaming platform contains the mention “Apple Classical”.

This mention refers to previous rumors: Apple would plan to launch an independent application, dedicated to classical music, and designed to evolve in parallel with Apple Music. As pointed out Apple InsiderApple’s goal would be to launch this new platform for music lovers in 2022.

Final or temporary name?

Better, the appearance of the name “Apple Classical” in the latest beta of Apple Music for Android suggests that a launch of the service would be very close. It is not known, however, whether this name is the one that Apple would definitively adopt for this new application… or whether it is a temporary code name, destined to be replaced by the launch.

Acquired by Apple at the end of August 2021, Primephonic was nonetheless known for its search and navigation features designed specifically for classical music. The company also offered recommendations selected according to the tastes of the user, as well as “contextual details about directory and records” of the pieces offered on its catalog.

This acquisition is part of an overall strategy for Apple, which wishes to enrich its musical offer as soon as possible. Very recently, it is also in this context that the firm acquired the British company AI Music. Specializing in the creation of royalty-free songs using artificial intelligence, this startup also has technology capable of changing the key of a song depending, for example, on the user’s heart rate.
