In a document communicated to British authorities, Apple reveals that security updates for the iPhone 15 will be ensured for at least five years.
By launching the Pixel 8 last fall, Google scored big points against the competition by announcing that its new smartphones would be entitled to seven years of Android updates and security patches compared to five years previously. A measure that also applies to the latest entry-level Pixel 8a. In January, Samsung followed Google’s lead and announced that the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra will all get seven years of updates. We now know that it is better than what Apple offers, at least on paper.
As part of regulatory communication to comply with the new law on the security of telecommunications products and infrastructures (Product Security and Telecommunications InfrastructurePSTI) which has just come into force in the United Kingdom, Apple reveals for the first time the duration of iPhone security updates.
The iPhone 15 covered at least until 2028
The document sent to the authorities regarding the iPhone 15 Pro Max stipulates an update period of “ at least five years from the date of first delivery “. Since the iPhone 15 was released on September 22, 2023, it will receive security updates until September 22, 2028.
Apple would therefore do less well than Google and Samsung in this area. Except that the duration indicated by the Apple firm is a minimum and that in fact, security and iOS updates are often more extensive.
For example, 9to5Mac recalls that the iPhone 6s released in September 2015 was entitled to a security update last March. In practice, Apple can therefore far exceed five years of software support but has probably chosen not to make it a sales argument.

- Lighter, more stylish
- Hyper bright screen
- Good autonomy
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is undoubtedly the most interesting model of the 2023 vintage. Despite its gigantism, it is much lighter than its predecessor, and stands out as the very first to benefit from a periscopic telephoto lens providing zoom 5x. Never before seen on iPhone.
If this thing will hardly impress those who use high-end Android smartphones, in our opinion Apple is largely catching up thanks to excellent quality optics, which remain very capable in low light.
Backed by the A17 Pro chip which shows the muscles in play as well as in more basic processing tasks, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is also the one which offers the best autonomy of the Pro models. Yes, despite everything, its striking power still keeps it a notch below the iPhone 15 Plus in terms of endurance.
Let’s add to the balance sheet the welcome contributions of the new action button, which offers a whole new way to quickly access essential functions of the iPhone.
In a nutshell: the best iPhone ever designed by Apple.
