The great waltz of smartphone chips is about to open in this month of 2022. Qualcomm will unveil its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 around November 14, but MediaTek should open first with a probable Dimensity 9200 during of an event scheduled for November 8.

On paper, it would be one of the most powerful chips on the market, at least in benchmark. The leaker Digital Chat Station claims to have got its hands on a test carried out on AnTuTu 9 during which the chip would exceed the score of 1.26 million. This performance is due in particular to a new GPU, the Mali-G715, which scores nearly 550,767 points. For comparison, the Asus Zenfone 9, one of the most powerful smartphones this year, scored 468,392 points in this category.

Ice Universe, the prolific leaker went there from his little leak in turn by publishing the results of a test on GFX Bench, Manhattan ES 3.0. According to him, the test reveals a chip as powerful as the future Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and which would even exceed Apple’s A16 Bionic, which equips the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max.

It should be noted, however, that Apple’s chips are not necessarily always the fastest in benchmarksbut in actual use they tend to be relatively impressive.

Another leak from Digital Chat Station provides a little more information on the configuration of the future chip. He claims that the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 would use three types of cores, one Cortex-X3 (3.05 GHz) for high performance, three Cortex-A715 (2.85 GHz) for intermediate tasks and four Cortex-A510 (2 GHz). ) for light duty.

Despite these demonstrations of power, MediaTek is still struggling to establish itself in the high-end segment. Looking back to 2022, very few smartphones have not used Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. MediaTek has yet to prove its reliability to manufacturers.
