After Galaxy AI on the latest high-end Samsung smartphones and tablets, Apple responded with a series of AI-powered features: Apple Intelligence.
The opportunity therefore for the company led by Tim Cook to get up to date and offer new uses to its users. We can notably cite a completely redesigned Siri, taking advantage of ChatGPT models (and others in the future, potentially Google’s Gemini).
However, these artificial intelligence capabilities introduced via iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15 will not be accessible on all of the Apple firm’s devices. Indeed, there is a hardware limitation. Apple Intelligence is therefore reserved for iPhones with an A17 Pro chip as well as iPads and Macs with a minimum M1 chip.
All tablets (except entry-level iPads and mini) and all computers released during the era of Apple’s ARM processors, i.e. since the end of 2020, will thus be able to taste AI; while only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will benefit from it on the smartphone side. The opportunity for Apple to make it a selling point with the release of the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.
As we write this, the first betas of iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15 are available to developers, but they are unfortunately devoid of any artificial intelligence.
It’s important to note that some features will still be limited to English and the United States when updates are released this fall, and that Apple is only considering support for new languages starting later this year. next.
