Apple is a hit at the end of 2021 with record figures

Taiwanese research firm TrendForce has released the latest smartphone production figures for the end of 2021. Apple stands out with excellent figures, thanks in particular to the iPhone 13.

356 million smartphones were produced in the last quarter of 2021, according to the TrendForce report. Over this period marked by the end of the year celebrations, it is Apple which takes the lead: in the last quarter of the year 2021, the Apple brand manufactured 85.5 million iPhones. A figure never reached for Cupertino, which increased its production by 66% compared to the previous quarter.

Excellent figures for Apple

The performance is all the more impressive given that the period is hardly propitious, in particular due to shortages of components and difficulties in the various supply chains. Of course, Apple always sees its figures explode in the last quarter of each year, since its new iPhone models are announced in September, three months before the holiday season. Cupertino can thus thank the good performance of the iPhone 13.

Over the whole of 2021, Apple produced 233 million units, compared to almost 200 million in 2020. By comparison, Samsung produced 275 million. This good growth is mainly attributed to the increase in Apple’s market share in China, which rose from 10% to 16%. In addition, the firm TrendForce also explains these good figures by the conquest of the market share left empty by Huawei.

Change in the ranking of smartphone manufacturers

The last quarter of 2021 was therefore excellent for Apple, which took first place in smartphone production, with 24% market share, ahead of Samsung and Oppo. The second quarter had been less good for the Cupertino company, which is therefore making a good comeback. However, Samsung is back in pole position for the first quarter of 2022.

For 2022, these are no less than 1.381 billion of smartphone units that are expected. In 2020, 1.24 billion devices were produced, which was well below the figures for 2019. After the collapse of sales in 2020 due to the pandemic, we are therefore seeing a definite rebound in the production.
