The race for display surface continues: the largest iPhone screen of 2024 should be close to 7 inches.
The technical sheet of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max should not change much compared to that of their predecessors, in addition to the switch to USB-C and new buttons better integrated into the chassis of the mobiles. But the models planned for the year 2024 should bring some important changes.
Up to 6.9 inches
According to Mark Gurman, journalist for Bloomberg renowned for its many reports regarding future Apple products, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max should be equipped with screens with a larger diagonal. In his newsletter power-onhe claims that the panels will go from 6.1 and 6.7 inches to 6.3 and 6.9 inches respectively.
Analysts like Ross Young (screen industry specialist) and Ming-Chi Kuo (Apple specialist) had already mentioned this possibility. With three sources of this caliber, it seems extremely likely that the display area of the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will increase, which would be a first for four generations of iPhone Pro and the 12 series.
Also according to Mark Gurman, Apple’s goal is to compete with high-end large format Android smartphones. The Galaxy S23 Ultra has a 6.8-inch screen, for example, and its successors could see even bigger.
Higher, but not wider
We can also expect an evolution of the ratio of the screen, since it would gain mainly in height and very little in width. Operated several years ago, the trend is to lengthen the display. Smartphones have gradually moved away from 16:9 and are getting closer and closer to 21:9, a format widely used in cinema.
Another novelty expected on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max is the incorporation of a larger main photo sensor, which suggests even better performance in low light. Periscopic optics to improve the quality of zooms could also appear on this generation.
