Mark Gurman is a journalist from Bloomberg known and recognized, and whose various predictions from Apple are followed by all the press specializing in new technologies. Inevitably, with each media release, the elements distilled by the person concerned are closely analyzed.

This time, the Apple expert understands that a new iPhone could join the range in the future. This model would in fact be even more premium than the Pro Max, which today constitutes the top of the basket in its catalog: no one is more expensive than the iPhone 14 Pro Max within Apple, which has set its French price. at 1479 euros.

Not before 2024

According to Mark Gurman, an Ultra version would thus arrive in the course of the year 2024 – without the Pro Max model disappearing -, the year in which the Cupertino company would release the iPhone 16. there, the new generation would consist of the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Ultra.

The Ultra denomination would not be surprising at all. One, Apple is starting to use it for other products, like the Apple Watch Ultra and the M1 Ultra chip. This suffix makes it possible to distinguish a particular device, whose physical and technical characteristics reflect the ultimate know-how of Apple.

Two, it was already rumored that an iPhone 15 Ultra would point the tip of its nose in 2023… to the detriment of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which would then disappear from the catalog. Today, the question is not whether the name Ultra will really appear in the iPhone, but rather when it will.

A 100% wireless Ultra?

For Mark Gurman, this famous iPhone 16 Ultra could go even further in terms of photographic performance, power and screen. New features could also be in order, such as the absence of a charging port. By replacing such a system, the Ultra would rely solely on wireless charging.

As a reminder, Apple should comply with European charging requirements from 2023 by switching to USB-C – for its range of phones. But this could only be a step… before going 100% wireless. The iPhone 16 Ultra could thus inaugurate this strategy, which would then trickle down to the other future models in the range.
