Apple is preparing to launch a new HomePod that is very different from the two previous iterations. It would indeed haveAppleTV as well as an integrated camera to make calls via FaceTime.
These revelations were made by analyst Mark Gurman in his newsletter power-onwhich focuses on the novelties that the apple brand is preparing.
Connected speaker, Apple TV, camera for FaceTime calls
He thus declared to be absolutely certain that this new product, a mix of HomePod, Apple TV and FaceTime camera, was in the works. Connected to a television, it could serve as a streaming/TV box and allow video calls to be made on this large screen thanks to its camera; it should also perform the function of a connected speaker.
” Either way, the combo product will likely be central to Apple’s approach, with HomePod minis surrounding it throughout the home. », continues Mark Gurman. It is therefore possible that this new device will also serve as a central hub for Apple connected products within the home.
Last year, the analyst had already suggested that the Cupertino company was working on a combination of Apple TV and HomePod speaker with a camera for video calls via a connected television. He later added that the other capabilities of the device would include standard Apple TV functions, such as watching videos and playing video games, as well as the functionality of a smart speaker, i.e. say listen to music or use Siri.
At the time, Gurman assured that this project was only in its infancy, so these new revelations seem to go in this direction and confirm the launch of the new HomePod.
A new HomePod Mini could also be announced
As a reminder, Apple ended production of its high-end HomePod in March 2021 to make way for the HomePod Mini, which is much more successful than its predecessor, thanks in particular to a more affordable price.
Gurman also isn’t ruling out the possibility of a second HomePod Mini with new features. For now, however, it is difficult to imagine what the new HomePod described by the analyst will look like, and the latter has not yet given any indication of its release date.
