Surprise ! Apple launches its “Tap to Pay on iPhone” contactless payment feature in France.
By launching Tap to Pay on iPhone in France, Apple is transforming the iPhone into an authentic payment terminal. For the seller, it then becomes unnecessary to have a TPE since customers will be able to pay for their purchases simply by using an iPhone payment method, all based on NFC contactless technology.
Tap to Pay on iPhone launches in France!
Tap to Pay on iPhone makes it easy for merchants to enable contactless payment acceptance through a supported iOS app on a compatible iPhone. The iPhone thus replaces this good old TPE, sometimes complicated to install and/or configure.
When paying, the merchant simply asks the customer to bring their contactless bank card, iPhone or Apple Watch closer to their own iPhone in order to pay with Apple Pay or any other digital wallet.
On the security side, Apple says that all transactions made via Tap to Pay on iPhone are encrypted and processed using the Secure Element.
An offer suitable for all merchants, and supported by many banks in France
“ We are very excited to offer Tap to Pay on iPhone to merchants across France, so that they have a simple, secure and confidential way to accept contactless payments while benefiting from the power, iPhone security and usability “, explains Jennifer Bailey, VP of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet services.
The American giant also explains that the BPCE Group (Banque Populaire, Caisse d’Épargne and Payplug), as well as the companies Adyen, myPOS, Revolut, SumUp, Viva Wallet and Worldline now offer Tap to Pay on iPhone to their French professional customers. Quickly, BNP Paribas, Crédit Coopératif and Stripe should join Apple.
Tap to Pay on iPhone can be used to pay for many purchases and services, and is notably available in certain restaurants, not forgetting Sephora stores which will also deploy the technology in the coming weeks.

The fact remains that Apple is making all the right choices this year to bring its “standard” range up to speed, where the Pro models tended to take too big a lead in terms of design as well as in terms of performance.
