Apple has launched large-scale tests of its M2 chip, a sign that the firm should soon launch products equipped with this new generation.

With the launch of the Mac Studio and its M1 Ultra chip, Apple seems to have made the rounds of its first generation Apple Silicon chip for now. All eyes are therefore on the Apple M2, which has been awaited for several months. And the latest news from Mark Gurman, reporter for Bloomberg, is quite encouraging. The wait seems to be over.

Apple launches Apple M2 chip testing

The journalist informs us that the firm has launched large-scale internal tests of new Mac models equipped with Apple M2 chips. In all, that would be nine new Macs which would be in the process of being tested, with no less than four different Apple M2 chips. The machines in question were identified from the registers of several developers: Apple employees also test the machines with App Store applications from external developers.

The same tracking had been done by developers a few weeks before the announcement of Mac Studio and its M1 Ultra chip. Bloomberg is not taking any risks, and speaks of a launch which should arrive in the coming months. Remember that WWDC 2022 is scheduled for June 2022.

The list of machines tested

Here are the new Macs spotted by developers during this testing phase.

  • Apple MacBook Air with M2 chip (J413): 8 CPU cores, 10 graphics cores
  • Apple Mac mini with M2 (J473) or M2 Pro (J474) chip
  • Apple 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 (J493)
  • Apple MacBook Pro 14 inches with M2 Pro or M2 Max (J414): the M2 Max chip would have 12 CPU cores and 38 graphics cores
  • Apple 16-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro or M2 Max (J416)
  • Apple Mac Pro (J180)

As we can see, it is a large part of the catalog of its Macs that Apple could renew in the coming months. The future looks very bright for PCs developed by Apple.
