Mac Studio: Maximum power

While Apple’s M1 chip beats in the Mac mini’s chest, the Mac Studio gets the much more powerful M1 Max implanted. Apple used it in the 14 and 16-inch models of the MacBook Pro. According to Apple, ten cores give the Mac Studio up to 70 percent faster performance than the Mac mini with the M1 chip. Compared to the computing dwarf from 2020, thanks to 32 instead of just eight GPU cores (Graphics pprocessing andnit) can also look forward to a significant increase in performance in terms of graphics. The M1 Max comes with a memory bandwidth of up to 400 gigabytes per second – almost 6 times the M1 – and up to 64 GB of shared memory. With the Mac Studio, Apple offers an extremely compact Mac that, despite its small size, should meet the demands of professional users – resource-hungry tasks such as time-consuming video editing should not be a problem thanks to the powerful chip. The US company is thus closing the gap between the comparatively inexpensive Mac mini and the particularly powerful but expensive Mac Pro.

It also allows up to 128 gigabytes of shared RAM. According to Apple, the Mac Studio with the M1 Ultra chip is up to 80 percent more powerful than the most powerful Mac Pro. Both Mac Studios are available with up to 8 terabytes of SSD storage.

The Mac Studio is only about 9.4 centimeters high and about 19.56 centimeters wide and deep. Nevertheless, it offers enough space for numerous connections: Apple has transplanted four Thunderbolt connections and two USB-A ports to the back of the Mac Studio. You connect the Mac Studio to a monitor via HDMI. A 10 Gigabit Ethernet port and a 3.5mm headphone jack can also be found on the back of the Mac Studio. In the M1 Max version, two USB-C inputs (USB 3.0) on the front allow you to plug in additional devices, while Apple uses two Thunderbolt 4 ports in the M1 Ultra version. An SDXC card reader is also included. Those who do not want to work with a cable also benefit from Wifi 6 and Bluetooth 5 connectivity.
