Apple Music Sing is a feature that allows you to display song lyrics in real time and sing along. But that’s not all: the feature lets you decide for some songs whether you want to sing lead or background vocals or even sing a duet with the artist.

You can adjust the vocal volume accordingly and decide for yourself whether you want to have the vocals completely or let them play quietly in the background. Apple Music even has various playlists for the singing function. These are sorted by genre and can be found in the Apple Music app.

The lyrics feature was introduced with iOS 16.2 in December 2022 and is available worldwide on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV 4K. If you use one of these devices, you still have to meet a few requirements. First and foremost, your hardware must be suitable.

Requirements

First of all, you need an active Apple Music subscription to use the function. In terms of hardware, it depends on the age of the Apple device: It must have at least an A13 Bionic chip installed so that you can use the function.

These would be devices from the iPhone 11, iPad 9, iPad Air 4 and iPad mini 6. If you want to use the karaoke feature on the Apple TV 4K, you need at least the 3rd generation. However, there are cases where new Apple devices do not meet the requirements.

For example, the 2nd generation iPhone SE does not support the feature, even though the device is new enough and uses an A13 Bionic chip. However, such cases are rather exceptional.

How to use Apple Music Sing

If you want to use Apple Music Sing, you can find the function directly in the Apple Music app. Follow these steps to activate it:

1. Open the Apple Music app and play the song of your choice.
2. Then click on the play button below to view it in full screen.
3. Now you have to tap on the “quotation mark symbol” at the bottom left, which is surrounded by a speech bubble.
4. If the selected song supports the karaoke function, you can tap the “microphone symbol” which is surrounded by stars.
5. Now you can adjust the volume of the vocals to sing either alone or in a duet.

If you don’t see the “microphone symbol”, then either your device does not support the function or the karaoke feature is not available for the selected song.
