For years, music fans have been torn between Apple Music, Spotify and Deezer. And until now, sharing playlists between multiple platforms was complex. But Apple could change things with a new feature currently in testing.

What is SongShift?

Spotted by 9to5Mac this Monday, posts on Reddit mention an integration of SongShift in the beta version of Apple Music. This integration would allow Apple Music users to easily transfer their playlists to Spotify (and vice versa) without having to leave the application.

SongShift is a third-party app that has long been a gold standard in music transfer. In particular, it allows you to transfer playlists from and to almost all music listening platforms: Apple Music and Spotify of course, but also Deezer, Amazon Music, Napster, Tidal, YouTube and many others.

SongShift is a very efficient application for transferring playlists between different applications. However, to use this service, you must first download the SongShift app, then log out and log back in to Apple Music.

Simplify playlist sharing

By integrating SongShift natively into Apple Music, Apple is simplifying the process. As noted by beta testers on Reddit, a new menu has appeared in the Apple Music beta for Android: Add downloaded music and playlists you’ve created in other music services to your Apple Music library.

According to what we can read on Reddit, not everyone with the beta version of Apple Music for Android sees this integration however, which indicates that Apple is carrying out A/B testing.

Since Apple has not yet communicated about this new feature, we do not yet know when it will be deployed, or even if it will arrive on the iOS version of the application. However, the fact that it is already in testing could mean availability soon. Furthermore, Apple continues to improve its music streaming application, particularly with regard to playlists. Recently, the Apple brand added the possibility of creating collaborative and crossfade playlists, two emblematic Spotify features.
