Apple Music, like its rivals in the hotly contested music streaming market, offers discounted prices for students to allow them to listen to all the music they want ad-free.
A slight increase for certain territories
Apple Music is offered to students at a price of 4.99 euros in France for example, upon presentation of proof. In other countries, such as Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, or even India, South Africa, Israel or New Zealand, the prices are even lower, with a subscription at $1.49 per month only.
Unfortunately, students in these different countries have just been notified via e-mail that the “student” subscription to Apple Music will very soon be increased to $1.99 per month.
For the moment only these territories are affected by this increase, all in all quite light, but it is not forbidden to think that Apple is preparing the same thing in the rest of the world. For the time being, the prices of subscriptions in France or the United States have not changed, with prices at 9.99 euros per month for individual access and 14.99 euros per month for a family subscription. These prices are also modeled on those of its competitors, Spotify in the lead.
Apple could vary these prices to encourage its customers to switch to Apple One, its bundle of services including music, but also Apple TV+ for video streaming, Apple Arcade for video games as well as iCloud storage.
