Apple teams have fun on the Steam platform. In the latest statement detailing the different types of machines connecting to the Steam game store, we can see two unknown computers from Apple: Mac 14.6 and 15.4. Two models not yet identified in trade.
MacBook Pro expected in early 2023
Each representing 0% of the total volume of machines connecting to the platform, it is easy to deduce that a few devices (probably connecting directly from Apple) are currently in the test phase on Steam. This is not the first time that these machines have been talked about.
At the end of November 2022, a 14.6 MacBook with an M2 Max chip pointed the tip of its nose on Geekbench, displaying first mixed results. This machine, which was expected for a time for the end of the year, should instead be released in early 2023 in order to take advantage of the 3 nm engraving process at TSMC.
The debut of the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips
It is however the first time that a “Mac 15.4” appears on the web. It could be another MacBook Pro that Apple has in stock for the start of the year or a Mac Studio, Mac Mini or even the highly anticipated Mac Pro with Apple Silicon chip. The simultaneous presence of the two devices in the Steam database suggests that they are in any case two machines equipped with the M2 Pro and Max processors which should soon arrive in the Apple catalog.
The two new in-house processors that Apple is about to formalize should not completely revolutionize the industry, however. The transition from the M1 chip to the M2 offered significant performance gains, but far from what the transition from Intel architecture to ARM architecture may have represented. The M2 Pro and Max should therefore be improvements of the M1 Pro and Max which already offer a great abundance of power anyway.
