Helmet Apple Vision Pro stands out with an exceptionally high selling price. But it seems that Apple couldn’t do otherwise given what production costs!
If Apple’s very first mixed reality headset was impatiently awaited, and had a good takeoff, it was still noted for its extravagant price of 3,500 dollars per unit. A price that even made Mark Zuckerberg react, for whom the quality-price ratio of this product was much lower than that of his own Meta Quest 3 VR headset. But if the headset is so expensive, it is not only to ensure Apple’s margins.
Both OLED screens cost a fortune
The Apple Vision Pro is expensive, and when it is resold to people outside the United States, it is even more so, with the price almost doubling to reach $6,000. But even at $3,500, Apple’s latest toy stands out for its price… partly due to the exceptional price of its screens.
Indeed, according to estimates from Omdia, whose CNBC was echoed, the two micro-OLED screens which constitute the front of the helmet alone cost 228 dollars each, or 456 dollars for each Vision Pro!
A third of the price is due to the components
An obviously very high cost, which will necessarily have to be revised downwards if Apple wants to be able to sell mixed reality headsets at lower prices in the future. This is something the Cupertino company seems to have taken into account, since it is currently prospecting with Chinese suppliers in order to obtain cheaper screens for future models.
More generally, all the components of the Vision Pro represent a total price of 1,542 dollars, or a third of the price of the headset. When behind the R&D, marketing, packaging and of course, Apple’s margin, are added, we can easily understand how the Cupertino company ended up posting 3,500 dollars for this product.
