Apple: the Mac Mini M2 and M2 Pro reveal explosive performance in this 1st benchmark


The first benchmarks published under GeekBench 5 have surfaced and the least we can say is that Apple’s most affordable computer of all ranges has some under the hood.

Along with the 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro M2 Pro and M2 Max, Apple has launched its new line of Mac Minis. The small computer from the apple brand says goodbye to the M1 chip, and is now available in the M2 or M2 Pro version. Mac Mini M2 and Mac Mini M2 Pro scores released on GeekBench 5 feature a glaring performance gap with those of its predecessorthe Apple Silicon M1.

The Mac Mini under M1 scored 1351 points in single core, the M2 and M2 Pro models total 1951 and 1952 respectively. The jump in performance is considerable, at 44%. The difference is even more marked in multicore ; this is where the M2 Pro stands out. When the Mac Mini M1 scores 6005 points in multicore, the Mac Mini M2 has 9003. The computing power increases by 50%, no less. Of course, the M2 Pro does even better, with 15,013 points.

The Mac Mini M2 Pro is better than every single-core MacBook Pro and Mac Studio

In single core, the Mac Mini M2 does better than the MacBook Pro M1 Pro and M1 Max. It turns out to be less good in multi-core. In this area, the M1 Pro and M1 Max remain 33% more efficient. The Mac Mini M2 Pro, on the other hand, sinks the MacBook M1 Pro and M1 Max in all areas, with gains ranging between 18% and 20%. Only the Mac Studio M1 Ultra beats it in multicore (24,315).

As evidenced by this first benchmark, the Mac Mini M2 offers even more power than its predecessor. And the Mac Mini M2 Pro proves to be better than most previous-generation Apple computers. The Mac Mini M2 becomes a option to consider buying a powerful and “affordable” desktop computer.
