Apple TV: Netflix joins the ranks to improve the video experience

Netflix has finally adapted its application on Apple TV to the guidelines of the Apple brand by opting for the native video player. For the user, it is a gain in fluidity in the experience and facilities in the orders that are announced.

Netflix abides by the rules of Apple TV. The video streaming service has agreed to drop its own video player to conform to the Apple-branded one introduced with tvOS 15.

With its 2.1.23 update, Netflix replaces its player to take advantage of Apple TV’s native playback controls. This will allow you to enjoy more intuitive fluid navigation, more ergonomics on the screen, but also the voice assistant Siri.

More info, but habits to resume

As spotted by Noah Evans on Twitter, several functions will thus appear such as adjusting the appearance of subtitles from the application settings. Language, audio and subtitle controls will now take place at the level of the content progress and playback bar (see left image in the tweet below).

By swiping down on the remote control while watching your movie or series, various program information and display options will appear (pictured right). And you will be able to resume the content at the start of a click or, from the Info icon, to have the list of episodes and video descriptions.

Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video still refuse to adopt Apple’s native player. This has the consequence of seeing some features missing. But the Disney+ proprietary player tends to approach that of Apple by positioning certain options. For users, these will be above all reflexes to take, because it changes somewhat from the current Netflix video player.

How to update your Netflix app?

Make sure you are up to date on your Apple TV with at least tvOS 15 installed and if possible tvOS 15.4 with the latest improvements (validation of purchases from the Apple Watch, control of an outdoor camera in PinP, connection to networks wi-fi requiring a browser, etc.).

Go to the App Store and search for Netflix. If you have not set automatic updates on Apple TV, you will probably see a message appear. Always check the version number to make sure you have the latest. This must indicate 2.1.23.
