The first returns ofApple Vision Pro by dissatisfied customers have been observed in recent days… revealing the main reasons which motivated, among these users, the return of Apple’s mixed reality headset.

The very first buyers of the Vision Pro, those who were able to get their hands on a copy as soon as Apple’s mixed reality headset was released, had until Friday to return the device, within the return period of 14 days provided by the brand for dissatisfied customers. The opportunity to discover the main reasons that pushed certain users to request a refund.

A volume of returns difficult to estimate…

It must be said that it is much more difficult to have a precise idea of the volume of returns sent to Apple for the Vision Pro. Mark Gurman tried to estimate it without much success. We therefore simply know that reimbursement requests with return of the helmet “ are likely to be between average and above average compared to other products – depending on where you are located », explains the journalist from Bloomberg, indicating that it is based on information collected from third-party resellers. Apple, for its part, does not communicate any precise data on this subject.

Some smaller stores are seeing one or two returns per day, while larger stores have seen as many as eight-plus returns in a single day », nevertheless reports Mark Gurman.

The person concerned nevertheless learned from these various sources that Apple is closely monitoring the reason for these returns. The brand would in fact seek to take the temperature for each reimbursement request… which is ultimately not very surprising when you know Apple, especially for a product belonging to a completely new category of devices for the brand.

When customers return the Vision Pro, store employees question them about what they didn’t like. Employees were also instructed to speak to a manager after each return so that any feedback could be forwarded to the headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. “, explains Gurman.

What reasons were given?

As for the reasons, precisely, the journalist was able to question “ more than a dozen » of people who returned their Apple Vision Pro to the sender within two weeks of purchase. Most cited one of five reasons, the most common according to Mark Gurman:

  • The device is simply too heavy, too bulky, it causes headaches and discomfort;
  • The current lack of applications and video content makes it impossible to justify the price;
  • The work features don’t improve productivity compared to using a normal external monitor with a Mac – and it’s difficult to use the headset for long periods of time.
  • The headset displays are too glare, the field of vision is too narrow, and the device causes eye fatigue and vision problems.
  • The product can make users feel isolated from family and friends. There is no meaningful group experience yet, and the Vision Pro cannot be easily loaned to other people due to the need for fine-tuning.

The journalist also indicates that the demonstration experience offered by Apple in store could also help to increase the number of returns of the headset. Very carefully designed to create a “Wow” effect, the demo would in certain cases be counterproductive. We learn in fact that a small portion of the users concerned would then have made an impulsive purchase… before realizing that the daily “Vision Pro experience” is much less exhilarating than during the first discovery of the headset.
