Apple wants to boost production outside of China, reports The Wall Street Journal

(Reuters) – Apple has announced plans for some of its contractors to expand production outside of China, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

India and Vietnam, two countries where Apple products are already assembled, are among the alternatives to China, the newspaper said.

Apple last month said it expected bigger supply issues as health restrictions in China linked to the resurgence of COVID-19 slowed production and demand in the world’s second-largest economy.

China’s “zero COVID” strategy is cited as one of the reasons behind Apple’s decision, writes the Wall Street Journal.

Asked, Apple declined to comment on the newspaper article.
