Apple wants to boost production outside of China – WSJ

May 21 (Reuters) – Apple has told some of its contractors it wants to expand production outside of China, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

India and Vietnam, two countries where Apple products are already assembled, are among the alternatives to China, the newspaper said.

Apple said last month it expected bigger supply issues as health restrictions in China linked to the resurgence of COVID-19 slowed production and demand in the world’s second-largest economy.

China’s “zero COVID” strategy is cited as one of the reasons behind Apple’s decision, writes the Wall Street Journal.

Asked, Apple declined to comment on the newspaper article. (Report Nishit Jogi in Bangalore; French version Claude Chendjou)
