Apple wants to develop its own wifi chip to do without Broadcom

SAN FRANCISCO (Agefi-Dow Jones)–Apple plans to manufacture its own Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chips by 2025 to replace a component currently supplied by Broadcom in its devices, Bloomberg reported. Apple orders account for up to 20% of Broadcom’s revenue, but Apple-targeted chips only account for a quarter of those orders, Bernstein’s Stacy Rasgon estimated in a memo. analyst released Tuesday. According to Bernstein, this Apple project could be destined to weigh in negotiations with Broadcom as the contract between the two groups expires this year. Broadcom shares closed down 0.3% after losing as much as 4.7% in the session. Apple gained 0.5% on Tuesday.
