A few days ago, Taiwan suffered the most powerful earthquake recorded in 25 years. This 7.4 magnitude earthquake obviously caused a lot of damage on the island.

It was a little before midnight that the earthquake began to be felt, with an epicenter detected at sea, but which affected all of Taiwan, neighboring islands and certain provinces of China. Many infrastructures were affected, such as TSMC, partner of a certain Apple.

Quickly, as a precaution and to allow careful inspection of the factories, TSMC announced the evacuation of several sites. The company is responsible in particular for manufacturing various chips on behalf of Apple, with automated production which runs constantly.

Many feared the worst for the facilities, which impose a very strict process and extreme precision for the manufacture of chips. “ Our critical equipment, including our extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines, was not damaged », However, the company recently confirmed.

This resistance was made possible (among other things) thanks to very strict construction standards, designed to withstand significant shocks.

Production resuming, but delay expected?

For a few hours, however, all production of EUV lithography machines was interrupted, these being used in particular for processors whose engraving fineness is less than 7 nm. The production line was able to resume very recently, but it is difficult to know what repercussions this could have on TSMC’s schedule.

Remember that the company is not only working on the A17 Pro chip which equips the new iPhone 15 Pro, but that it is also preparing the new A18 chips, which will power the next iPhone 16, the launch of which is planned for the start of the school year.

Remember that TSMC (for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) was founded in 1987 and is today the largest independent semiconductor factory. In addition to Apple, the Taiwanese company also designs chips for Intel, NVIDIA, AMD, and Qualcomm.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro

  • Almost as light as the iPhone 15
  • Hyper bright screen
  • The most efficient iPhone

This year, the iPhone 15 Pro necessarily suffers from the comparison with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The reason ? A telephoto lens that stands still, where its big brother benefits from Apple’s very first periscope.

The iPhone 15 Pro nonetheless remains an excellent smartphone, which is also more affordable than last year’s model. Rarely light for a phone of this standing, its titanium shell gives it a stunning look and impeccable grip. Be careful, however: the iPhone 15 Pro tends to heat up, especially in games where the A17 Pro chip is heavily used.

Either way, you probably want to avoid playing for too long. Because if the iPhone 15 Pro is almost close to the iPhone 15 on the scale, it also borrows its… light autonomy from its little brother. If you’re the type to spend more than 3 to 4 hours in front of your smartphone, you might feel a little cramped with the iPhone 15 Pro.
