Apple has recognized a display problem on certain Apple Watch Series 6 with a 40 mm dial… and is taking the appropriate measures accordingly. The firm announced at the end of last week the free repair of models affected by the “blank screen” bug. Affected users can request support directly from a Genius Bar or through an Apple Authorized Repairer.

In this case, the watches affected by this display problem, which Apple itself describes as definitive, are those that were manufactured between April and September 2021. A page has been put online to find out if your watch is eligible for the repair program launched by Apple. However, you will be asked for the serial number of your tocante. It is inscribed on the case, in one of the bracelet slides.

A problem that only affects a “small percentage” of watches, promises Apple

Apple has determined that a very small percentage of 40mm Apple Watch Series 6 devices may have a permanently blank screen. The affected devices were manufactured between April 2021 and September 2021. If your Apple Watch Series 6 exhibited this issue, please use the Serial Number Checker to see if your device is eligible for this program. If so, Apple or an Apple-authorized service provider will support it for free.“, Apple said in a statement released last Friday.

However, two limitations should be mentioned for this free support announced by Apple on a global scale. The first relates to the age of the affected hardware (Apple’s program is limited to coverage for two years from the date of purchase) and the second relates to the condition of the impacted watch. Charges may indeed apply to the user if other components than the screen are damaged.
