Expected at the start of the school year, the Apple Watch Series 8 would not adopt flat edges or new sensors. Instead, Apple would rather bet on a smooth change, but still with an evolution of the design… at least, for one of the planned models.

The next range of connected watches from Apple, expected in September, should offer something new, but not necessarily as much as we would have liked. According to the latest information unearthed by Mark Gurman, journalist for Bloomberg, the Apple Watch Series 8 would ultimately bet neither on a flat-edged design (as Jon Prosser had mentioned) nor on a new temperature sensor to detect a fever in the user. Fortunately, a model from the range would still be able to stand out.

A new design, the first since 2018?

I’ve been told that the top-end model will be a bit larger than the standard Apple Watch – big enough that it may only appeal to a portion of customers. The screen will be about 7% larger, and the device will have a new look. This will be the company’s first time showcasing a new Apple Watch design since 2018. », explains Mark Gurman in his last Newsletter « Power On ».

It will be an evolution of the current rectangular shape, and a non-circular dial. There won’t be those rumored flat sides either (for those who will no doubt ask). In terms of materials, however, the watch will benefit from a more durable titanium alloy to make it extra robust. “.

This information corroborates several rumors predicting the arrival, on the top of the range, of a reinforced model, designed to resist shocks and scratches in the context of more advanced sports use. As reminded WCCFTech, Apple is due to launch three connected tocantes this year: a “classic” Apple Watch Series 8, an Apple Watch SE 2 and finally this famous reinforced model which would respond to the name of Apple Watch 8 Pro. However, its price would be significantly higher than that of other models.

… but nothing new sensor issue

However, the Apple would not prepare any particular novelty on the sensor side. In addition to the anticipated absence of a temperature sensor, WCCFTech understands that the blood pressure and glucose level sensors, previously mentioned by certain leaks, would not arrive on the Apple Watch 2022 either.

These three models would also retain a SoC relatively close to that used for the Apple Watch Series 7 and Watch Series 6.
