Apple Watch: Which model do I have? Here’s how to find out!

APPLE WATCH BUYING ADVICE – ALL GENERATIONS TEST

The Apple Watch is available in different sizes and model series. You can easily check which generation, size and case class you have on your wrist.

The success story of the Apple Watch will already be ten years old in autumn 2024. Over the years and almost ten generations, the manufacturer from Cupertino has packed more and more functions into its smart wearable.

But not all of the new features of the Apple Watch are compatible with older devices. In addition, the range of functions also differs within the same years: It is not at all obvious at first glance whether only the basic GPS version is available or whether it is a more expensive device with its own mobile phone function.

Turning around is usually enough

The material used can also be different for the same generation: You can quickly find out whether the casing of your Apple Watch is made of aluminum, stainless steel or titanium. It is particularly important to know the case size of your Apple Watch when purchasing bracelets or protective films.

To find out the generation, size, design and cellular features of your Apple Watch at a glance, all you have to do is turn the smartwatch over. All basic information about your Apple Watch can be found there around the middle skin sensor of the wearable. In the example image you can clearly see:

  • 1 – Model (Apple Watch 8)
  • 2 – Size (45mm)
  • 3 – Housing (stainless steel/ceramic)
  • 4 – Glass (Sapphire Crystal)
  • 5 – Signal (GPS, LTE)

Identification of your Apple Watch via the model number

If you can’t read the information on the back of the Apple Watch, you can find some more information about your wearable in your Watch app on the iPhone or on the Apple Watch itself in the menu under “Settings > General > About”. The model number is also included.

With this model number you can then check on the “Determine Apple Watch” service page which model it is with which basic functions and materials used.
