(Boursier.com) — Apple has had discussions with DuckDuckGo to replace Google as the default search engine for private mode on Safari, as Bloomberg reported earlier this week. The general manager of DuckDuckGo indicated that his discussions with Apple on an integration contract for its search engine had failed due to the billions of dollars spent by Google to remain the default service of the Apple group on its smartphones. At least that’s what emerges from the transcripts of a trial targeting the internet giant and relayed by Reuters.
Bloomberg earlier said details of the negotiations would be revealed this week after Judge Amit Mehta, who is overseeing a federal antitrust action against Google, ruled that discussions of partnership agreements, including testimony regarding potential deals between Microsoft and Apple or DuckDuckGo and Apple would be unsealed. The judge, considering these elements critical, unsealed the testimonies of DuckDuckGo’s CEO, Gabriel Weinberg, and Apple’s CEO, John Giannandrea.
